United have agreed to sell injury-plagued striker Louis Saha to Everton for an undisclosed fee subject to the 30-year old French striker passing a medical at Goodison.
Saha, dubbed ‘Balsaman’ by some United fans because of his fragile nature, signed for United from Fulham in January 2004 for £12.8 million and scored 42 goals during his time with the club.
Saha had previously spent time in English football, enduring a brief unsuccessful loan spell with Newcastle before returning to his first club FC Metz. He joined Fulham in 2000 and first caught the attention of Sir Alex Ferguson with his goal-scoring feats for Fulham against United on the opening day of the 2002-2003 season.
Persistent injury limited Saha’s appearances in the first team during the last two seasons and Ferguson had made no secret of his desire to offload him - whether he can scrape through the medical at Everton remains to be seen.
If he can and if he can stay fit subsequently, Everton have a decent player.
