Tottenham’s Berbatov At Carrington NOW - Man City Thwarted?

Latest on the fast-developing transfer deadline Berbatov story.

Earlier today subsequent to the revelation that an Abu Dhabi investment group had agreed a deal in principle to take a majority stake in Man City, manager Mark Hughes revealed that Spurs had accepted their bid - in excess of £30 million - for Dimitar Berbatov.

Hughes then told reporters that he hoped to speak to the Bulgarian and his agent at some point during the day.

Spies at United’s Carrington training ground have revealed, however, that Berbatov and his agent are currently at Carrington, discussing personal terms - meaning, presumably, that Spurs have accepted an offer from United.

What remains to be seen is whether the Bulgarian will move on from his discussion to United to honour his verbal agreement to meet with the City boss.

Whether Spurs will allow the deal to proceed on the basis of the Bulgarian striker’s decision alone is also unclear. Could they yet twist the knife by insisting Berbatov head to the club offering the most money?

United have prevaricated for weeks over meeting the £30 million valuation for the Bulgarian and will probably even now not want to match a higher straight cash offer from their newly-enriched cousins from across the city.

However, a lower cash bid that includes the transfer of Fraizer Campbell may have finally convinced Daniel Levy to succumb to United’s advances.

Berbatov to Manchester seems certain - but whether he’ll be wearing blue or red next season hangs in the balance.

Hold tight…
